Researchers in the area of sleep, find that in order to have a healthy life it is important to have a good and restful sleep. While the amount of sleep required for people can vary from person to person, a minimum of 5 or 6 hours of sleep per night is needed. Sleep apnea is a disorder where your airway becomes blocked and you stop breathing during sleep. When this occurs you can choke or snore loudly. Unfortunately, during this time your brain and body are deprived of oxygen. Typical occurrences of sleep apnea can range from a handful of times per night to hundreds of events each night. If not corrected, sleep apnea has been connected to other medical conditions including high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.
